BAMBOO DESIGNS Bamboo Designs design and manufacture furniture and kitchens (countertops and cabinetry) using solid bamboo furniture board. The bamboo is imported from China where it is grown and manufactured into furniture board and flooring. Bamboo takes in more carbon dioxide during growth than it gives off during the entire manufacturing process; reaches its full height and maturity in 6 years; and does not stop growing once it has been cut down. It is therefore a highly sustainable, eco-friendly product. Bamboo Design furniture is made by cabinet makers in Kommetjie (Cape Town).

HEATH NASH CREATIONS Heath Nash is a sculptor who makes functional things (like the flowerball lampshade in the picture) out of plastic bottles, paper and wire. He started the “other people’s rubbish” range, using the local South African craft vernacular as inspiration. His intention is to increase the value of the plastic bottles themselves – hopefully creating a new micro-economy in informal settlements and suburbs, whereby earnings can be made by simply collecting and selling rubbish to the recycling centre, who then employs extra staff to clean and cut the bottles flat. These flattened plastics are then sold with further value added (flat, clean) to the end user – like Heath Nash or any other designer… Ultimately this will mean constant access to any colour needed (colour rarity being the price point indicator per bottle/kg).
IRONWOOD CREATIONS Ironwood Creations is a South African company that makes bathroomware from recycled aluminium (scrap aluminium from old car parts and engines). Each piece is individually sand-cast and hand polished and completely original in design and finish. It’s easy to maintain and is rust resistant, making it ideal for use in the bathroom. The locally manufactured Twig and Bark Range uses alien vegetation (like black wattle) in a most creative and useful way - this product range would be ideal for decorating a bush retreat Orders take from 4 - 6 weeks to produce depending on stock levels.
HOOKED!
Hooked! makes mats from from cotton off cuts, sourced from the factory, that would otherwise end up in the landfill. They are hand crocheted, creating employment opportunities for unemployed women. Manufactured to client specifications, they are machine washable and non slip and can be used in homes, guesthouses and hotels. They are long lasting, and available in a wide range of colors to suit any décor. The range also includes slippers made from the same material.
